25% loss of hardware

Sun Feb 01, 2015 10:57 pm

Hello world!!!

I just got 8 devices of the cAP-2n.
First I wanted to upgrade them to the newest release of ROS.
It work on six of them.
One was not recognized by the neighbor viewer and I was not able to access it the update ROS.
On one device the LEDs di not light up when I plugged it in.
Tried different PS an different cables, but it just did not start.
Does MT have some kind of quality control ?
2 loss of 8 devices, which is 25%, is really not such a good cut.
I ordered them for setting up a hotel. Now I have to order 2 spares for the defective devices. My supplier says 11 (in words eleven) weeks
until delivery for the new devices ???
What´s that ? Didn´t the test the design befor putting it to production ?

Are there any tricks to get these devices back to life ?
在一台设备上的灯,但未见by winbox, neighbor viewer or other MTs.
On the other device there is not one light.
PS and cable is always the same, I just change the cAP connected. The PS/cable does not seem to be the source of the problem.

Please help !
The hotel has been waiting for two weeks, I had to order the devices from the Netherlands.

One failing device of 100 pieces is acceptable, but two of eight is for from being.

If there is a way to get these things to work, or at least one of them, please tell me.
Last time I had a hardware fail of an MT device, It took 6 Month to get exchange.

THX

For the one that powers up but that you can't access, try to follow the instructions to re-image the device using Netinstallhere.

For the one that doesn't power up, I trust that you have tried a different power supply and/or ethernet cable if you are doing PoE? (Borrow the supply from one of the working units...)

Did they ever power up and work for a longer time, or you upgraded them immediately?

How long is the Ethernet cable and the Voltage you supplied at the other end? Can you try other power supply and shorter cable?

Hello,

I tried the powersupplies and PoE injectors from the other devices with the two problem units without success, also different cables between 1,5m and 3m, shielded and unshielded.
I will try the netinstall with the one that lights up. Maybe I can access the device. Windows says there is not cable connected, neigborviewer does not find it. Looks like only power comes through the cable
The working devices were upgraded to 6.25 at first start without problems.

Thanks for now.

Got some life to the device that lights up.
Did a hard reset and can now access the device over WiFi.
Ethernet showsinactiveandno link.
I am running it for about one hour with not one packet through ehternet.
There should at least be some broadcast, shouldn´t there ?

It's not going to transmit any broadcast traffic (e.g., CDP/MNDP) if it thinks the port is not physically linked up to anything. Sounds like either the port is dead and is only accepting power, or there is something wrong with the PoE injector or patch cables being used on either side of the injector.

I think it is the port.
The injectors and cables work with the six other devices.
