I have some orange and some aqua fiber. From what I've read, the aqua should be able to do 1.25G and 10G. The orange, I'm not so sure. (It's an already installed senario that I've inherited). So, how do I know if an SFP is for 50 or 62.5 core fiber?

I know it's not single mode. I was able to talk to one the of the people there when it was set up, and he says it's 62.5.
The thing I'm not sure of is how to know what the various SFP's mikrotik makes are able to be connected to. I imagine if I connect a 50um cable to a 62.5 SFP (or vice versa) that it will either not work, or it will have poor performance.

not 100% shure about this but i was told just hours ago that SFP is the same unit for both 50 and 62.5 micron but need to use the same patch cable type as the fiber itself.
We just changeing a cable at work and this was what my colleague told the custumers It guy.

Most common types :

Orange OM1 62.5 micron multimode mostly BNC type connector (ST)
Orange OM2 50 micron multimode
Light blue OM3 50 micron multimode (laser optimised)
You need a multimode fiber SFP (mostly 550meter, some up to 2km)
Multimode mostly uses grey connectors

You need a single mode SFP (10 or 20 km or more version)

Best is to not mix fiber types (microns)
The most common patch panel plug is a SC connector, in order to connect a SFP module you need a SC - LC cable

If you read the text on the side of the fiber jumper and/or cable it should mention what micron it is and possibly even if its OM3 or OM4. OM1 and OM2 typically don't say. If its infrastructure cable it may have a manufacturer and model number that can be looked up.

Orange with 50um printer on fiber will likely be OM2 MM
Aqua is typically OM3 or OM4 50um MM.
Yellow is typically single-mode

Don't worry too much about mixing OM3 and OM4 jumpers. Mixing 6.25 with 50um fiber will cause signal loss and should be avoided. All sizes of MM fiber can run 10G its just a matter of what distance you are planning on running that 10G link at.
