pppoe server centralized or in AP ?

2012年四月19日下午4时32分

Hi all.
I need to implement pppoe server in my network.
Is it better to place the pppoe server in each AP (I have 20 AP) or a single pppoe server concentrated in the noc using vps tunnel ?

could you help me to decide ?

thanks

That's a decision for you to make. Both ways have pros and cons. I personally would put the pppoe server on each individual router, and then use 1 central server for authentication.

If you use a single pppoe server, it will need to be very powerful.

Yes on the very powerful part.

I have a dual core Xeon 3ghz (one core off), that can hit 75% CPU with 515 PPPoE sessions and fire walling/queuing.

Im not sure there is any router board product that can do it yet.
