750GL, PPPoE and a routed subnet

Thu Nov 03, 2011 12:29 am

I've just bought a 750GL and am having a bit of trouble configuring it.

ether1 is a PPPoE link to my ISP, with a routed subnet (x.x.x.176/29). This I can configure successfully: the router connects to the ISP and gets the correct IP (x.x.x.182).

I'd like to reserve ether2 for a secondary WAN link, to be set up later.

I'd like to use ether3-5 for devices with static IPs on the routed subnet x.x.x.176/29. This should be very simple, but I'm struggling. I can't seem to figure out what exactly needs to be done with bridges, NAT etc, and would be grateful for step-by-step instructions.

I've been using Webfig for this. What makes experimentation a bit tricky is that the moment I mess up the LAN side of things, I can no longer access the router and have to factory reset it and start from scratch.

Thanks!

What do you mean by correct IP? mean Public IP?
Are x.x.x.176/29 public or private?

Don't touch it or disable it.
I'd like to use ether3-5 for devices with static IPs on the routed subnet x.x.x.176/29
If These are public IP and you have to route them to your clients.

I think you need to take a TCP /IP tour or hire a consultant.
Or
can explain us more which can help you

All IPs in question (62.x.x.176/29) are public.

All I need the 750GL to do is sit between the PPPoE interface on ether1 and a bunch of clients on ether3-5, and route traffic between them. All clients have public static IPs in the 62.x.x.176/29 subnet.

I am currently using an old wrt54g with dd-wrt. This was very easy to set up and has been working well, but the hardware is beginning to show its age. I am therefore giving MikroTik a try.

Now, I've set up PPPoE on ether1. This works.

From what I understand, to get the rest working, I need to:

1. Separate ether2 out of the ether2-5 switch.
2. Set up a bridge between the pppoe interface and the ether3-5 switch.
3. I think there are some NAT rules between WAN and LAN set up on the 750GL by default, so I assume I need to get rid of that?
4. Finally, I am a bit hazy on what setting I need to change on the router to associate ether3-5 with the correct subnet (62.x.x.176/29).

Anything missing or incorrect in that list? I hope my goal is clearer now, and I would be grateful for any guidance you can offer.

Hiring a consultant is not really an option, since this a low-budget home setup.

Dear,
如果你使用PPPoE服务连接到ISP, You get just one IP from the service. But you said you get a routed network(62.x.x.176/29) No prob.
your PPPoE client must have an private IP. In the Picture below I describe how your network should work.
Net-diag.jpg
I use 172.16.10.1 for PPPoE server IP and 172.16.10.2 for PPPoE Client (Suppose to be, may be differ )
If you want to have another WAN port and use the MT as switch too, you have to not use ether2, because it should be the master port of 3-5. so you can use e.g 5 (This is for RB750G but I think GL is the same)

check this diagram and tell me where is my misinformation. Then We can handle this issue I hope.
