Switch group with VLAN on master interface

Fri Jan 21, 2011 6:53 pm

Hi there,

i do have a RB1100 and i have port ether1 to ether5 in one switch group (ether2 to ether5 have ether1 as master-interface set) ... so if i add a vlan interface on ether1 (master) will that be available on all slave ports too? I read the documentation but it does not clearfy that to me ...

Thanks for your answer.

Regards,
Joerg

Unfortunately, no.

The switch chips simply switch VLAN tags. They do not allow layer 3 / routed interfaces to be inserted into the switch by simply adding the VLAN atop the Master Port. MikroTik does not currently have the ability to function as a regular layer 3 switch.
