Determining MTU

Sun Nov 01, 2009 1:11 am

I have switched to a VPLS tunnel based network from EOIP.

But now I seem to have MTU problems.
Im not familiar with how to set the MPLS and VPLS mtu size.

my PPPoE server settings were always set to MTU of 1480, and that worked Ok, but now I cant get a packet that big across the tunnel, its now 1470. Anything past that ping timeout.

my core router has intel pro gigabit card, and it reports MTU of 1500, no idea what its L2MTU is. and everything is run thru a netgear fs726t switch which Im not sure of its MTU/L2MTU

So Im trying to optimally set my MTU now, but there is an MPLS MTU and a VPLS MTU and now an L2MTU So Im all lost.
Any suggestions?
