generate lag / latency / packet loss

Sun Nov 19, 2006 7:00 pm

hi,

i need to do some streaming video tests and was wondering if anyone knows of a way on MT to generate or add latency...i know how to limit bandwdith but for some of these tests i need higher latency (70ms or above) and it would be nice to simulate some packet loss..

i know, a somewhat strange request..

tks.

well, for this lab, maybe you can make simultaneous traffic of FTP, no one session of FTP put 5 and download files and upload file other session, and see the latency, is work for you

in Mk, really i don´t know how make latency, but i know what do you want.

you test with big or heavy traffic in the layer 1 and layer 2 ? maybe the latency go to up of 2000 ms

Best regards

For latency, use a congested queue - that should work... Or limit the bandwidth through the interfaces and make that congested.

Packet loss can also be specified in firewalling, enough packet loss will also cause some latency as packets needs to be retransmitted..

Mikrotik is useful for Up/Down Bandwidth limitation.
However the latency (jitter) and packet loss settings are not simply achievable.
Can someone point out console commands to set rules with RouterOS for throttling latency, delay and packet loss in a similar fashion as it is done with Linux TrafficControl (TC) ?
Maybe it is possible to install tc on RouterOS ?
The router model I use is RB962.
Thanks!
