Winbox on OS X 10.11 El Capitan - it's a way to fix it the easy way

Hello!
Since final version of El Capitan arrived Mac users probably noticed that Winbox version will not run anymore, instead showing following error:

The application X11 could not be opened. An error occurred while starting the X11 server: "Failed to activate core devices." Click Quit to quit X11. Click Report to see more details or send a report to Apple.

There are two solutions - disabling "rootless" feature (which isNOT recommended) or simply configuring Wineskin wrapper bundled with Winbox.
First you have to installXQuartz, next right click "Winbox3" application inside Applications folder, select "Show Package Contents" and than double click "Wineskin" icon inside it.

Next click "Advanced" button and go to "Options" tab. Just select last options to use XQuartz instead of builit-in Wine X11.

Close all windows and you're done - you can now run Winbox like before without compromising security of OS X

Actually, if you use Winebox, you don't need X11 at all. You can run it natively quite nicely.

That should get you a stable, and Code Signed WinBox, that will also update correctly via the Check For Updates menu item. No X11 needed.

Im on latest El Capitan and downloaded your 7z file, moved the Winbox thing to Application.
Opened it and still no success!
It shows nothing or doesnt open anything, neither any error.

What to do ?

So download Wine and then first open Wine and then double click your Winbox.app ?

No, once you have Wine.app installed (copied to the Applications folder) that is all you need. Just Open Winbox.app and you are good to go.

I actually downloaded you package of Winbox, I launched it and clicked on 'connect' but then I got a message saying that the application cannot connect ... I gotta say I feel kinda dumb right now and don't know what to do ...

@soamz, @SaeedYa:Actually they're doing smartest thing ever. Maintaining three applications (Windows, OS X, Linux) require people knowing these three operating systems. Additionally even if app is built around the same codebase more bugs will be present.
What MikroTik did is just built app which is Wine-complaint (which really means application conforming to standards without ugly hacks). Forms and windows used inside Winbox are custom anyway.

of course it's false. but you can roll your own if you want, just download the Wine Bottler tool

So we don't pass on Windows malware, of course. I've never seen it diagnose anything except Windows malware I've received in email... until this.

Regardless, I would hope that MikroTik wouldn't want to continue to offer an infected file in their download area.

It's NOT an infected file - it's a obvious false-positive of ClamAV heuristic engine:https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/8457 ... /analysis/
Detailed report gives a clue about this situation:

Possibly Unwanted Application. While not necessarily malicious, the scanned file presents certain characteristics which depending on the user policies and environment may or may not represent a threat. For full details see: http://www.clamav.net/doc/pua.html .

Giving purpose of this file in mono I can only guess why it was marked as suspicious. It contains POSIX compatibility layer and some clever asm - it looks suspicious, for sure, but this file itself is harmless.
