Quite simple: HTTP proxy only supports TCP, and SOCKS5 can support UDP.
Routing isn't the best solution in all environments, and proxies are instead a good solution in some cases. But UDP is required for some services. Then, please, add SOCKS5 proxy support.

Try harder.I mean, we're talking about company that did not bother upgrading SOCKS server to version 5 even for the most basic stuff, i.e. outgoing TCP connections, where the differences from current version 4 are close to none. And you want them to jump to advanced stuff like UDP support...

I would rather argue to remove socks completely... MT is a router, not a proxy.

Some people keep telling that, but it sounds more like their wishful thinking than reality. RouterOS had non-router extras as long as I know it. That would be around 11 years. So this "pure router" idea is just a dream for at least that long.
