I am going to connect with other isp with BGP
i am interesting will rb1100 will work for this task?
Traffic will be max 1 gbps

RB1100s seem to be able to push about 200Mbps traffic under such conditions, going by other forum posts. Use an x86 solution instead.

We did some more testing, here are our results.

We made a RB1100 with full BGP feed on it. Routing traffic from clients to up to 10 000 random Internet IPs

a) Connection tracking disabled - 1200-1300Mbps
b) Connection tracking enabled, but no firewall rules - 680-750Mbps
c) Connection tracking enabled, all traffic passes trough 100 firewall rules - 300-330Mbps

So RB1100 is OK for full BGP feed and 1Gbps throughput, as long as you use it just for this task.
In case you want to do some firewall and queueing just take another RB1100 for this.

How were the packet sizes distributed? If all packets were 1500 bytes, this test means very little.

Regardless of packet size it shows that the RB1100 CPU get crushed when even just trying on ConTrack, add some firewall rules in and it runs @ 25% of what it can do with ConTrack off and no firewall rules

Good morning - it is the same to each and every system, x86 or Routerboard - conntrack is, was and will be THE most expensive feature out there. So it has nothing to do with particular board

x86 systems don't take as much of a hit as RB's and the RB1100 was pushed as a high-end router. Read around, the expectations of this RB were high from users and there are a few threads now asking why the RB1100 is struggling with what I would consider fairly basic setups

See results I posted above, the packet sizes were random, mrz post is accurate.

Could I please request that this benchmark become standard for your products and done on all current RB's? Its a good test of what each RB can do and much closer to real world results than the current benchmarks you do

I doubt that anyone is interested how RB133C performs with a BGP setup like that

Get your x86 to run at 100% load without conntrack, then enable conntrack with some firewall rules, you will see similar impact. Only problem is to get that 100% load on current x86. I know this from experience when most of my routers was Pentium 1 and 2, maybe 3

We had a P3 1ghz running as an edge router, When we turned on contrack and some queueing with packet marks we at best took a 20-25% traffic hit on it.

I think we've learned over the past few weeks on here that if you have 100+mbit of traffic going out an edge and need to mess with the traffic in any way then it's best to skip over the RB's and go straight for a x86.

这里有人们想要支持10 gbinterfaces and being able to handle 1gbit+ routed traffic and such, If this is an area where MT feels like getting into the mix (Which I personally dont think they should, leave pushing huge traffic volumes to the big boys) then MT will have to scrap the current RB thinking and work on things like GPU off-loading, multi-core or multi-cpu setup's. Phones have more grunt than some RB's these days.

x86 ROS needs a polish which is coming with ROS 5.0 but it would still help alot of us if MT produced a serious router on the x86 platform that would work, alot of our time is spent figuring out which combo of hardware is going to work without quirks

I think we can all agree that based on the results I posted above, RB1100 is plenty enough for a lot of people, but there is room to improve, and until we release more powerful RB devices, you can choose X86 for those high demand locations.
