I asked support. They confirmed there's no way for the router to verify the TLS cert when sending email - maybe in the future.

I was really hoping to check the config as text into my git, and maybe use it as a foundation for a restore script, maybe reuse parts across similar devices also, this would mean I can't effectively secure the server side ; because the client will send the credentials to anyone/anything it connects ...

It's still an issue, not sure why it happens,

if you change the window size after logging in by e.g. resizing the secureshell window, or changing the font size (ctrl + / ctrl -) .. it works fine.

I'm not able to get 300Mbps with hAP ac^2 , (more like 200 with a 2x2 client).

An old tplink Archer c7 running LEDE gets me about 430Mbps with a 2x2 client.

Capsman without local forwarding requires the CPU to wrap data and send it to the capsman manager, not good fit high speeds considering the CPU inside... (Mikrotik could maybe work to optimize this wrapping to make it less CPU intensive, but it's always more overhead than local forwarding).

Currently have a pair of hAP ac, looking forward to upgrade to a pair of hAP ac 2 for their faster CPUs.

I'm not using poe and SFP, and 3x3 in hAP ac.

Ooor, you could also just start with pcq; or if they're using a ubiquiti router, they have this thing called "smartqueue" which is basically htb+fq_codel.

It would help with latency.

The only thing that I'm not sure if it has drivers or how it's connected it's the SFP port (e.g. does it use i2c? Which driver? Which register base address) For other stuff, you can try booting an initramfs kernel while looking at a 3v3 serial port. If I were you I'd start with a .dts from an archer...

No such thing.

RB750Gr3 is the cheapest thing that will do 100Mbps IPsec for you, but has no WiFi.

You could then get a second box (eg. wap ac) for WiFi.

Hmm, my CSR did come configured with an IP, but lost it after factory reset and I had to use winbox / mactelnet.

Factory reset config != Out of the box config

"Factory" might be a misnomer

The reduced throughput looks like a Mikrotik bug, even if it might not be. That's because the TP-Link Archer c7 that's based on the same chipset gets 500 Mbps with 2x2 with some versions of the firmware and driver, and gets the same 340 with other versions, which seems to indicate that the hardware ...

I actually have one of the turris omnia devices pictured above, a Mikrotik equivalent would have been a cross between an RB3011 and a hAP ac (for the wifi).

Yes, type-c would be optimal, but could port be more "compatible" with possibility of use micro-USB type-B compatible (depends from controller).
+1 - Everyone has a handful of old micro-b chargers at home they're not using that can be given a second life.

You'd have one extended vlan/dhcp pool/guest network for guest stuff, and one extended vlan/dhcp pool/private network for your stuff.

My only disappointment is the 16MB flash. I'm a huge proponent of partitions. There have been times where I have had to revert back after upgrading, due to a bug. Peli: RB750Gr3 has either one or two internal Gigabit links to the built in switch (that has 5 external ports). Unless you need more than 1Gbps combined up+down, a single 1Gbps internal should be enough.

Can someone confirm that it supports the usual VLAN switching in hardware? Reason why I'm asking, is that Ubiquiti edgerouter-x only does it in software, while openwrt supports VLANs on same chipset just fine. hAP ac will only do about 290Mbps w/ 1500bytes packets with sfq, and you need (350+290 == 640Mbps) Usually people would use fasttrack with hAP ac, but if you're maxing out your upload/download all the time, it makes sense to enable some kind of queueing which means no fasttrack. I know that's what gives fasttrack the performance, I just wasn't expecting it to be both directions or none.

Queues and filters can certainly work in one direction only, not sure why fasttrack would be both or none.

  1. I want fasttrack for more performance
  2. sfq+limit for upload works fine.
The problem is that both don't work at the same time, i.e. fasttrack for downloads, sfq for uploads.

I wonder if I can hack it somehow to have the router os think the connections are separate. Or what if I had asymmetric routing, such that I'd route all uploads from home lan through a meta router and then through wan and all downloads from wan directly to home lan. Would fasttrack break such a setup?
