Contemplating on this subject - wouldn't it be a nice idea for MT or someone outside to create a script, that runs over all public ip's and builds a list of vulnerable MT routers (or get that list from those cocky "investigators" that are publishing stories about Mikrotik), then a second s...

Re: SXT, SA, Lite5 - Wind loading

If you haven't yet found an answer, then I could chip in - for this size of devices wind loading calculation should not be calculated by european civil engineering code, as it will be negligible. Even though, we are able to make approximate assumptions. : If you look here, you can find rather precis...

Just my 2 cents in here: 1. lower the transmit power until you are in mid-50 rx/tx (-55-60db) 2. in HT MCS tab on AP, leave only one mcs in both Supported and Basic MCS (try to avoid MCS 13-15 if you are in noisy environment) http://www.dbii.com/wiki/index.php?title=F52N-PRO#Example_.22N.22_setup_us...

Well, that seems to be the reason.
Honestly, Openvpn as it is in Routeros is by 90% useless.
For the owners of RB450 there is an answer - Openwrt, but for the roadwarrior scenario I hope to see Openwrt on RB750.
I have migrated to x86 with openwrt for just that reason.

And, more than that, I would like to see a single chips solution (Atheros wlan+Quallcom dualcore) - then we add justa bit of components, stuff it in a small round housing with antenna and stick on a dish - that is a reasonable evolution of groove.

At the moment I am thinking of CAT6 and higher voltage (48-60v dc) anyway. As the insulation between colours in cat6 is much better, for near-100m runs it would make a great poe carrier. 5905-5925Mhz licensed on standard rb in Latvia?

As the prices are getting lower for 5Ghz equipment, hte frequency looks worse every month. I have got an idea to apply for a licenced frequency to stop someone from screaming in my dish once in a while and ruining my throughput. My setup - RB411AH+R52HN <-14 km-> R52HN + RB411AH the dishes are stand...

Re: Recommendations for a PPPoE board

Intel Atom mainboard and 4-port lan card plus minipci-x wireless will get you with some spare power in case of an upgrade. But RB450G is not a bad choice either.

Re: OS v5.0 Stable, ever?

Well, as I see it, there are soooo many new things in 5.x and it Will take a while to get them all working perfectly. More then that - I think everyone will agree - it is worth waiting for this release. Just don't start talking about 6.x already. ;) Concerning my projects - some of them are working ...

Re: NOT TO DO. Weird instalations?

Well, you can easily bite off psu cable with teeth and connect it without instruments, ensuring that only 12v or so go through your cat5, but no - some people just have to go funny ways. I know, that the other end goes to clients apartment. And what if the client gets curious?...

Re: NOT TO DO. Weird instalations?

If you desperately need to power switch in a fast-developing 'crapnet', you can do it by ignoring health and life hazards as well. I know an operator, that could fill this thread easily just with pictures from 3 houses... Sadly, the price for internet is a reasonable factor to cheap-ass customers. M...

Re: 25 pair UTP distribution

据我所知,似乎拉脱维亚提供商之一use this technology in multiple-apartment houses. They have a huge box with switch, ups, fiber converters and patch panel in the middle of building and those 16 and 25 pair cables run to the next stairways and are distributed there. Can't seem to no...

Re: Winbox for Android OS?

As an android owner, the only thing I would like to have in web is alignment/signal/ccq for chosen adapters. Most probably, they can be marked in winbox and then, without password, accessed in http://align/ That would be a good replacement for small leds on wireless cpe. I know I sound mes...

Re: RB411-433 RJ45 port replacement source

So, if it is not lan transformer - I am screwed? The Lan on these boards is in onboard atheros chip... All of these rb's were put up in a hurry to extend our wired network temporary. Sadly, people, that installed these antennas did not have any surge suppressors nor they had will to install them. Ab...

Re: bad performance from R52hn cards

It depends on antenna gain and on the things you see in log file. Most probably you are overdriving these amp'ed cards. Then you should see ROS screaming about too strong signal in Log. Also, NEVER EVER switch on these cards without antenna or some other termination! They are very powerful, yet very...

RB411-433 RJ45 port replacement source

Howdy, cowboys! After all the storms and dead lans on RB4xx series boards, I just had to start thinking. We got much smarter and got surge arresters, but the damage was done already. As far as I know, this type of fault is "not repairable" for our local MT suppliers. So, together with my M...

Re: PTP link with R52Hn and 4x Tetraant 23dbi

As far as I have seen R52Hn have amplifiers and they tend to amplify noises as well as signal and sometimes it messes them up. I believe they are good for long distance shots in desert. ;) I have a rather good link with them and 30db dishes running at 14km distance with fair LOS. N is fast, but sens...

2. Someone knows the prices already?

Re: Antenna Selection for 802.11n

From my experience (15km link 5.4Ghz N, 2x dual pol 850mm dishes) if you have a winderful line of sight, go for dual-polarisation, but if you are not constrained by space on towers it would be the best idea to choose 2 pairs of good dishes with single horisontal polarrisation separated by 1-2meters ...

So, this all means, that a single client with crap... sorry, bad CPE can mess up everyones connection on that sector? I have the same situation - 2 sectors, 2 RB52 cards, 3 clients on each, 2,4Ghz and I am very sorry for the money I spent on these sector antenas. Of course, they could live with 1-3M...

A piece of idea - RB411RN - 2.4Ghz N-lite
Not so much for the speed but stability and shorter pings and number of clients on one sector antena. We have surely passed the time, when 1Mbit is called broadband. Still, it is hard to convince client to pay at least 100$ for CPE in Latvia.

Re: SolarTik

Well, this construction seams sensible, although there are a couple of tons of such circuits in fleabay. One thing they lack is 36 or 48 volt support. It can either be done by more batteries or smps upconverter - say, 24 to 48 volts. A neccesary feature would be - "power lost" warning - RO...
